‘The Jai Life’ takes us into the murky world of jai alai in Florida in the 1970s, chronicling its rise and fall through the lives of brothers—Ricky and Donny Alvarez—two talented but very different jai alai players from the Basque region of Spain, and the women closest to them.

As jai alai gains popularity and becomes more lucrative, rumors of bribery and match-fixing start to circulate, and the Alvarez brothers must navigate this precarious wave of prosperity. But the mounting pressure to perform—and to cheat—puts the brothers in conflict with each other and those around them. Especially Ricky’s ambitious girlfriend, Rita Navarro, and those involved in the sport including players, owners, officials, and eventually, the criminal underworld in Miami.
