Logline

A young music video director is hired to make a documentary about a corrupt mental health charity founded by a dying philanthropist.

Synopsis

When his father dies, a disillusioned young music video director, Jay Godd, seeks solace in charity work—at age 24, he wants to become a ‘serious storyteller’. Meanwhile, on the other side of LA, a dying philanthropist, Earl Bassett, seeks reconciliation with his estranged daughters and asks himself: Did I make the world a better place?

While Jay quits his job—in search for meaning—Earl returns to the two charities he helped establish (WellBeings and Linchpin) seeking the answer to his question. However, Earl soon discovers that WellBeings is losing money and Linchpin is corrupt—they are selling confidential patient records to a market research company in a bizarre and speculative attempt to commercialize deviancy. So when Earl and Jay bump into each other at WellBeings, Earl hires Jay to make a documentary that will break the Linchpin corruption scandal.

Spending time with Earl, and the other participants in the documentary, Jay discovers a new side to himself and thinks his apparent calling has been found. But as the story spirals downwards, several questions emerge that remain unanswered: Can Jay finish the documentary and expose Linchpin before Earl dies? Will Earl achieve reconciliation with his two daughters? And is Jay really being motivated by blind ambition?
